Affiliate programs have reshaped how business on the internet is done. You can create a virtual sales force through affiliate sales channels. This will allow you to market your product without having to pay anything up front. The only time you have to pay is if your affiliates get you results by sending you referrals, leads, or getting you sales. You can take the money that you save from not paying up front and reinvest it in your business or your marketing strategy.
There are a few different ways that you can pay your affiliates for sending you new clients, leads, or garnering you a sale. You can either pay them by pay per lead, pay per click, pay per email, pay per sale, pay per impression, or pay per download. You can pay them either with a commission-based percentage or a flat fee that is based on each transaction. It is totally up to you how you reward your affiliates for working for you.
Do you know how affiliate software works? After you get an affiliate to join your program, he or she will get an affiliate ID that the affiliate software will be able to recognize him or her by. Any banners that he or she put up on their website will also be identified using the same affiliate ID. When a visitor clicks on their banner or link, they will reach the affiliate merchant website from the affiliate's website. Then a cookie will be placed on his or her computer by the affiliate software program. The length of time that this cookie will last can vary. When the visitor purchases something from the merchant's website, the affiliate software will record the sale in a datable and link it to the specific affiliate ID. Each time that visitor makes a purchase, the affiliate will garner a commission on it until the cookie on their computer expires. The affiliate will then be notified by email about the sale.
You will want to use an affiliate software program if you are an affiliate merchant. You can buy and install this software on your server; however, you will need to perform your own upgrades at your own expense. If you go with a third party, they will supply the software for you and perform any upgrades and maintenance themselves.
