From OJ Simpson to Paris Hilton, celebrities cause an uproar when they face legal battles. However, it seems that we are facing different times and the days of celebrities enjoying a "get out of jail free card" are soon to be over. In days past, it was commonly accepted that if a celebrity was caught committing a crime, they wouldn't do any time. High priced lawyers, connections, and the power of being a household name were often enough to ensure that they would get off scott free. Today, society has made it clear- enough is enough!

It doesn't matter who you are, how many hotels your grandfather owns, or how many Superbowls you had the pleasure of playing in. If you commit a crime, you need to pay society for your actions. Of course, there are plenty of celebrities who are walking the street today, that popular opinion sincerely believes they are guilty, but one thing is for sure-society is no longer going to keep their mouths closed when celebrities get off before being tried by a jury of their peers or when they receive special treatment just because they are a member of an elite group.

Although Paris Hilton is in the spotlight for her jail stay, there are a number of other celebrities who have been arrested and served jail time. Here are some of the more notable celebrities that served jail time for their crimes. Though it may be said that many of these celebrities have received softer sentences then their less notable peers.

Robert Downey Jr. - served time for a drug conviction in 1999 and in 2001.

Mel Gibson was arrested for drunk driving in 2006.

Nicole Ritchie was arrested in 2006 for driving under the influence.

Lil Kim was arrested for drug possession.

Anna Nicole Smith was arrested for DUI in 1989.

Haley Joel Osment was arrested for drunk driving in 2006.

Eminem was arrested twice in 200 for drug charges.

Nick Nolte was arrested in 2002 for driving under the influence.

Nick Carter was arrested in 2005 for drunk driving.

Foxy Brown was arrested in 2007 for battery and obstruction of justice.

Yanni was arrested in 2006 for domestic violence.

Though many celebrities are arrested, everyone agrees that they do not deserve special treatment or light sentences due to the fact that they are famous. With Paris Hilton's jail sentence in the spotlight, and the vocal outrage exclaimed over her change in sentence, then ultimate return back to jail, it appears that the voice of outcry has been heard.
