While Majorcans used to be able to maintain their land and their culture within the island and leave the outskirts to visitors on holiday, that is no longer the case. There is nowhere left for Majorcan residents to retreat, especially when they can't afford property on their own homeland.

Relying heavily on tourism to survive put Majorcan residents in a tough position with the Germans. Majorcans simultaneously have a need and distaste for German visitors.
