Even if you can afford to bring in a plumber to carry out work for you, you can easily be waiting a very long time because they have so many other jobs to attend to. Then you have the problem of finding a plumber who is professional and is going to do a good job for you. We are constantly hearing horror stories about plumbers and other trades people charging large amounts of money up front only for them not to turn up.
If you find yourself needing a plumber then occasionally there may well be jobs that you can tackle yourself. Not only will you save money but also time because there will be no need to wait around. Also, some people have to take time off work whilst they wait for a plumber to arrive only to find that they cancel at the last minute or don't bother showing up at all.
If you need to replace your garbage disposal unit or need to install a water purification system then this will simply require a bit of thought and patience. Not to mention the ability to read instructions. Having the right tools and a bit of strength to loosen nuts and bolts will help a great deal too.
When it comes to dealing with larger items such as removing and replacing a bath then you will have to have a bit of strength for this. However if you have some help you should be able to deal with the actual mechanisms OK.
Whatever plumbing job you are faced with, having a basic knowledge of products such as sealants, glue and putty will do you good. You will need to know the difference between these products and understand when it is appropriate to use each one.
Most people don't realize how simple plumbing is until they give it a go themselves. If you are using some sort of kit then all you need to do is follow the instructions step-by-step.
Most people will have had experience is unblocking a drain or sink and it's not something that takes a lot of expertise. However sometimes these problems can be a bit more stubborn than you might have realized so a bit of extra knowledge will be required.
