Most of the made-for-teen (or tween) movies and TV shows incorporate some sort of musical number, which is often performed by one of the main characters. Although she made her mark in acting with the Cosby Show, Raven Symone is best known for her role in Thats So Raven. Her upbeat pop image has been used to promote the successful made-for-TV movie, The Cheetah Girls, which eventually led to a sequel. The movie was coincidentally about the ups and downs of an all-girl pop music group.
Hayden Panettiere landed a role to play the daughter of Coach Yoast in Remember the Titans, eventually accepting several Disney movies, television and voice-over projects. During her time with Disney, Panettiere recorded a variety of pop music singles for various films, such as Ice Princess and the original Disney Channel movie, Tiger Cruise. From this exposure and experience, she expects to release her first full-length album in 2007.
In 1998, the pop music princess known as Lindsay Lohan (among other things) broke into the Disney scene with her memorable performance of long-lost twin siblings in the remake of The Parent Trap. It wasnt until 2003 that Lohan began to exercise her vocals with a variety of pop music performances throughout some of her movies. In 2003, she sang Ultimate for the Freaky Friday soundtrack. The 2004 flick, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, gave Lohan the chance to sing six tunes for the soundtrack.
Additional singing credits for this pop music princess includes songs for Just My Luck, Herbie Fully Loaded and The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. Outside of her movie and television musical appearances, Lohan released her first album that produced pop music videos, such as Rumors and Drama Queen.
Like Lohan, Hilary Duff enjoyed a cushy position in popular Disney television shows and movies. She also used this opportunity to join the ranks of her fellow peers and lent her voice to the soundtracks of some of the productions she was involved with. For the 2002 movie, Santa Clause 2, she performed Santa Claus Lane. She sang songs for the Lizzie McGuire Movie, as well as Cheaper By The Dozen. She took singing credits for three songs in A Cinderella Story (2004). If you ve ever watched the MTV show, My Super Sweet 16, it is her voice belting out the catchy Sweet Sixteen pop tune.
Whatever the formula Disney uses to send these pop music princesses out into the less-than-squeaky clean world is undeniable. After a successful go at a Disney television show, big screen picture or made-for-Disney TV movie, they are able to crank out well-received pop singers, which certainly put the pop back into bubblegum music.
