If you are new to playing poker either online or in one of the casinos, you can benefit from tips on how you can improve your skills. This is true whether you are playing in the US, Germany or in any country in Europe. Skill in playing the game means knowing when to exploit advantages, even though there is a lot of luck involved in winning a game. The main thing to remember when playing is that you have to remain positive, even after you lose a few hands. Having positive expectations will help you improve your skill. If you're sitting a table and getting down about losing, other players will sense that you are starting to panic and use that to their advantage.

You have to use your time at the table to learn - things about the game and things about the other players. This is called reading the players. By watching how they make their moves and the facial and hand movements they make, you can pick up tips that you can use in your game. You will notice that all the professional German players seem to have a lot of self-control. Once you have self-control, you can have great power over the decisions you make. Anticipation is also part of learning to read the players. You can try to anticipate what each one will do in a given situation and then watch how things play out to see if you are correct. If you notice that a player has been caught bluffing a few times, then when you have a good hand, you can play it cool to perhaps catch him/her again and you win the pot.

When should you bluff in a game? The best answer is not to bluff when others are bluffing. Many players bluff when there is a big pot and others bluff when they are in a losing situation. You should bluff when others are not bluffing or when they least expect it. For example, if you are playing a straight game and you haven't bluffed on a hand, you can use this to your advantage. The key to this skill is in knowing when to bluff and when not to.

Know the rules of the game and exactly how to play each position. This is a mathematical game in which you need to know how to calculate the pot odds to see if you have a chance of winning. If you know that you don't have a chance, you should fold. Some players have a lot of skill but don't play well. You will only become a good player when you play well. Skill is not some magical quality that some players have and others don't. It is something that you work at no matter how long your have been practicing or playing.

This is more than just a game of cards. It goes on in the conversation around the table, the way the player act and move and in the way they place their bets.
