It's certainly true that there are plenty of legitimate examples of men and women who have met each other online and gone on to have long lasting, deep and meaningful romantic relationships. But these examples represent a ridiculously low percentage of the people who use online dating sites or who look for love on the computer. In the vast majority of these situations, instead of romance, you are more likely to find failed or shallow relationships. It's dangerous to look at the few examples of successful online romance and think that your experience will be the same.
Rather than use the Internet to actually meet men and women looking for love, it's better to use it as a resource to strengthen existing relationships or come up with ideas for fun dates once you've already met someone. It's much better to pursue romantic relationships by immersing yourself in what you love, and looking for interesting and fun people to meet while you are doing what you enjoy. Once you've found that special someone, the Internet can be a super resource for coming up with new romantic ideas to develop your romance, but it shouldn't be the impetus of that relationship.
Here are a few examples of what we mean by "immersing yourself in what you love" to find romance. If you enjoy a certain type of music, why not take in some local concerts or performances where there will be lots of other people interested in the same thing? Or, if you have a certain hobby, it's super easy to find local groups and clubs with lots of people interested in the same thing. Your odds of finding a person with a lot in common with you, and of starting a rewarding romance, are much higher in this kind of environment than on the Internet.
While it might be fun to go online and take a love quiz or read romance advice, doing so with the intent to meet a romantic partner can be foolish and even dangerous. It's good to remember that some of the people you meet online are not who they say they are, even if they provide you with photos that they claim are of them. There are plenty of examples of people who have run into lots of trouble when they went out to meet someone who they met online and thought they could trust. Rather than make the same mistake, don't rely on the Internet to decide your romantic future.
